James Baldwin Community Programs
All of our James Baldwin Community Programs (books) are community-based and community-led and intentionally established to reach cash poor families in Black and Brown neighborhoods. We recognize that the history of the majority of people worldwide is a history of colonialism, genocide, and exploitation. Our James Baldwin Community Programs are rooted in movements that build the community's power to transform the conditions of fragmentation, displacement, and loss of culture that result from this history through literature. We recognize that representation in literature is essential for our children and that closing the "diversity" gap needs to include not just who is in the books being published, but who is writing those books.
Help us apply for nonprofit 501(c)(3) status! We have a minimum of $2500 in major donations in progress that require a tax deduction to be completed. If you've got it like that, please consider donating to help cover the fees associated with the application process for becoming nonprofit. Any amount helps!
